Reiki is an ancient healing art meaning Universal (Rei) life energy (Ki).
In the late 1800’s Dr Mikao Usui, a Japanese Buddhist, re-discovered Reiki while searching for a healing formula. He originally taught Reiki as a spiritual practice. In the West it has become known as a system of healing in which one person transfers spiritual energy to another.
Reiki is a simple, safe and powerful method which works on all levels: the physical, the mental, the emotional and the spiritual.
Reiki helps to promote and maintain good health and freedom from anxiety and stress, improve physical wellbeing, ease aches and pains and increase vitality. It can also raise spiritual awareness and connectedness. Clients with a terminal illness may be helped by the sense of peace, comfort and acceptance which Reiki can bring.
A session of Reiki usually lasts one hour and can be combined with Sound Healing or Shamanic Healing for a longer session. The client lies fully-clothed on a treatment couch or in any other comfortable position. The practitioner places her hands on several positions on or directly above the body.
